RL-INSET-SG		 This Rampant Lion ring is a solid heavy weight ring with textured sides. A small shield with a Scottish rampant lion deeply engraved into its surface is set into the ring top below a raised edge so that the top of the shield is level with the raised edge. The hammered background inside the outer edge is antiqued a dark black to give a bold contrast. This is truly a man's ring! A ring that any proud Scot would be pleased to wear and display their bold Scottish heritage.
Each ring is custom made exactly to your ring size in heavy weight sterling silver or gold. The underside of the ring is solid with a thick ring shank (band). The ring top is 16 mm wide by 18 mm long. Weight: 14 grams .. more than a half ounce. This is a stunning ring and an be worn on either a small or large hand.

The Lion Rampant

The symbol of a lion has been used as a heraldic device for many centuries by Scottish Kings.  In the days when flags and banners were important to identify opposing elements in battle, King William I 'The Lion'( 1143 to 1214), adopted a heraldic device showing a rampant lion, the king of beasts, rearing up with three paws stretched out.   Legend has it that the inspiration came from King William's own lion that he supposedly kept in Edinburgh castle. This became the royal coat of arms in Scotland. The lion was also incorporated into the Great Seal of Scotland which was placed on all official documents.  When the royal coat of arms was being designed, the lion rampant was  incorporated, with the Latin motto "Nemo me impune lacessit"meaning "No one attacks me with impunity". In Scots, that became "Wha daur meddle wi' me?"
